Affiliate disclosure

This site earns commission from Amazon. Here is exactly how that works, what it does and does not influence, and how to check us on it.

The statement

The Filter Tap is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We earn commission from qualifying purchases made through links on this site, using the tracking tag thefiltertap-20.

It costs you nothing extra. The price you pay is the same price you would pay arriving at Amazon any other way.

  • Every earning link on this site is marked rel="sponsored nofollow" and opens in a new tab.
  • Every one of them routes through a /go/ path on this domain before reaching the retailer, which is how the tracking tag is applied. That path is excluded from search engines.
  • A short disclosure appears above the first buy link on every page that carries one, not only here.
  • Every buy button carries a #ad label and a link back to this page.

What we do not earn from

Most outbound links on this site are citations rather than commerce, and we earn nothing from any of them. That includes every link to a certifying body, a manufacturer’s specification page, a government source, a research journal and an independent publisher whose lab data we credit.

Concretely: of the 25 link destinations configured on this site, 24 are non-earning reference sources. Amazon is the only one we make money from.

Does commission affect what we recommend?

No, and here is how you can check rather than take our word for it. This site ranks on a published method whose first criterion is a certification traceable to a certifying body. The two cheapest products we cover are among the only three that have one, and they outrank products costing several times as much. If commission were driving the order, it would not look like that.

More directly: several pages here exist to talk you out of a purchase. We tell hard-water readers that no filter will solve their problem, tell readers with eczema that a randomized trial of the stronger intervention found no benefit, and decline to rank filters for acne at all because there is nothing to rank on.

Prices and availability

Prices shown on this site come from a live retailer feed and are stamped with the date they were verified. They change constantly and we do not control them. Where the feed has no current figure, the button reads “Check price” and no number is shown — we do not print a remembered price to fill a gap. Always confirm the price on the retailer’s own page before buying.

What we do not accept

  • Sponsored placements: 0. No brand can pay to appear, to rank higher, or to have a criticism removed.
  • Free products accepted: 0. We are sent nothing and we accept nothing.
  • Units we claim to have tested: 0. Related, and stated here because it is the same kind of disclosure.

Other affiliate programs

Amazon is currently the only network we earn through. If that changes we will update this page and the disclosure on every affected product before any link goes live. We will not build a tracked link for a program we have not joined, which means some products — particularly premium brands that sell direct — are linked here with no commission to us at all.
