What this site is, what it is not, and the limits of what you can rely on it for.

Acceptance

By using The Filter Tap you accept these terms. If you do not, please do not use the site. The Filter Tap is published by Slate Mill Group.

This is editorial content, not professional advice

  • Not medical advice. We report what published research shows about water, hair and skin, including where it shows nothing. We are not clinicians and this site employs none. Nothing here diagnoses or treats anything — talk to a doctor or dermatologist about a skin or hair condition.
  • Not plumbing advice. We describe how a tool-free fitting works. We are not plumbers, and anything involving your water supply beyond screwing a fitting onto a shower arm should involve one.
  • Not water treatment consulting. Where the right answer is a softener or a whole-house system we say so and send you elsewhere, because we have compiled no specifications for that equipment.

Accuracy, and its limits

Every figure on this site is sourced to the page it came from, and our method is published so you can check it. Even so:

  • Specifications change. Manufacturers revise product pages and product lines without notice. Our compile date is stated on every ledger.
  • Certifications can lapse. We re-verify quarterly, which means a listing can change between our checks. Always confirm against the certifying body if it matters to your purchase.
  • Prices change constantly. Figures shown come from a live retailer feed and are date-stamped. Confirm on the retailer’s own page before buying.
  • We have tested nothing. Units we claim to have tested: 0. No statement on this site is a measurement of our own.

If you find an error, tell us. It gets fixed and logged with a date on the editorial policy page.

Purchases

We are not a retailer and we sell nothing. Buy links take you to Amazon, where the sale, the price, the warranty, the shipping and the returns are entirely between you and them. We earn a commission on qualifying purchases, disclosed on the disclosure page and above the first buy link on every page that carries one.

Intellectual property

The writing, the tables and the compilation of specifications on this site are ours. You are welcome to quote a passage with attribution and a link; please do not republish the ledgers wholesale. Product names, brand names and certification marks belong to their respective owners and are used here for identification.

We link to manufacturers, certifying bodies, government sources, research journals and independent publishers. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Where a link earns us a commission it is marked rel="sponsored" and carries a #ad label.

Limitation of liability

The Filter Tap is provided as-is. To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither Slate Mill Group nor anyone associated with this site is liable for any loss arising from your use of it, from reliance on information published here, or from any product you purchase through a link on it.

Jurisdiction

This site is written for the United States market. Pricing, retail availability and certification regimes differ elsewhere, and information here may mislead a reader in another market.
