Privacy policy

Short, because this site collects very little. Analytics, affiliate cookies, and the contact form. That is the whole list.

What we collect

  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are read and which links are clicked. It sets cookies and collects a truncated IP address, device type, referrer and pages viewed. We use it in aggregate; we do not attempt to identify individual readers.
  • Contact form submissions. If you write to us, we receive the name, email address, subject and message you send, by email. We keep them only as long as needed to answer, and we do not add you to any list.
  • Server logs. Our host records standard request logs, including IP addresses, for security and abuse prevention.

What we do not collect

  • No accounts, so no passwords and no profiles.
  • No newsletter, so no mailing list.
  • No advertising network, no retargeting pixels and no data brokers.
  • We do not sell or share personal information with anyone.

Buy links on this site pass through a /go/ path on our domain, which appends our Amazon Associates tracking tag and forwards you to Amazon. Amazon then sets its own cookie so it can attribute a purchase to us. That cookie is Amazon’s and is governed by Amazon’s privacy notice, not ours. We never see your order details, your payment information or your name. The full disclosure.

Opting out

  • Analytics. Any browser-level tracking blocker, or Google’s own opt-out add-on, prevents GA4 loading. The site works identically without it.
  • Affiliate attribution. Blocking third-party cookies, or navigating to the retailer yourself rather than through our link, prevents it. You lose nothing; we lose the commission.
  • Do Not Track. Browsers send the signal inconsistently and it is not honored uniformly across the web. The two steps above are the ones that actually work.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to request access to, or deletion of, personal information we hold. Given what is described above that is realistically limited to contact form correspondence. Write to info@thefiltertap.com and we will action it.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect we will update this page and the date at the top. Given that the direction of travel here is towards collecting less rather than more, we do not anticipate many revisions.
