Nearly everything else in this registry is sold on what it will do for your hair. The ISH-100 is sold on sulfur odor and scale, which tells you Culligan has a well-water customer in mind — and for that customer it is the more honest positioning, because there is no chlorine in a private well to remove and most of this category's marketing is therefore addressed to someone else.
The rotten-egg smell of hydrogen sulfide is worse in hot water, which means the shower is where a well household notices it most. KDF's redox chemistry acts on it, and Culligan also notes that KDF inhibits bacterial growth inside the cartridge — a property that matters more on a well than on treated supply, because there is no residual disinfectant coming down the pipe to keep the inside of a wet filter clean.
What KDF does and does not do here
- Hydrogen sulfide — a real mechanism, and the main reason to buy this unit.
- Dissolved ferrous iron — partial, at that fixture, and it will load the cartridge quickly on a well with real iron in it.
- Free chlorine — yes, though on a private well there is none.

No flow rate, which for an inline unit on a well — where pressure is often already marginal from a pump and a pressure tank — is a real omission. And no certification: the WSH-C125 is explicitly certified by IAPMO R&T, and no equivalent statement appears for the inline ISH-100.
